Hustle Is Not a Leadership Strategy

Hustle Is Not a Leadership Strategy

Being busy is not the same as being productive.

Many leaders mistake long hours, constant availability, and nonstop activity for high performance. But eventually, hustle catches up with the brain.

When cognitive overload becomes chronic, the brain loses access to its best thinking. Decision-making declines. Creativity disappears. Empathy fades. What looks like commitment may actually be exhaustion.

High performance should energize people—not deplete them.

Leader Tip:

• Audit your team’s rhythms. Are there opportunities to recover between major pushes?

• Celebrate sustainable success not just heroic effort.

• Model healthy boundaries. Your team will follow your example more than your expectations.

If performance is costing people, it isn’t leadership.
