05 Aug Creating Calm in Chaos
Stress, anxiety, and confusion seem to be ever-present in today’s society. But don’t worry—here are a couple of hacks for creating calm in chaos.
1. Manage Triggers
When you feel triggered by an event, the key is to reset or pivot quickly so the trigger doesn’t drain you. Here are some questions to ask yourself to manage triggers effectively:
– What do I know to be TRUE?
– What meaning am I giving this event? (What does this mean to me?)
– What serves the greater good?
– How do I respond in alignment with who I want to be? (calm, confident, etc.)
– Does this require my ENERGY? Or, does this just require my ATTENTION?
By answering these questions, you can gain perspective and reduce the emotional impact of the trigger.
2. Reduce Confusion
Your brain doesn’t resist change as much as it resists confusion. Therefore, if confusion is the problem, clarity is the solution.
When feeling overwhelmed with confusion, try this simple exercise:
- Draw a line down the center of a piece of paper.
- On the left side, write down areas where you are clear.
- On the right side, write down the top two or three areas that are causing confusion.
This act alone reduces stress because you gain clarity—clarity on where you are clear and clarity on where you are confused. Then, you can more confidently decide on the best next steps.
