23 Feb Are You Glossophobic?
Glossophobia is the fear of public speaking and one of the most commonly reported social fears. One way to minimize the fear of public speaking is to remember that you have given hundreds of thousands of presentations in your lifetime. It’s true! Every time you are in a conversation, you:
- Engage (there is a reason for entering into the conversation)
- Share (you share information)
- Interact (you stay aware of the listener’s response and adapt accordingly)
- Conclude (there is an ending)
Think about the very last conversation you had. My guess is it included these four elements.
One way to minimize the fear of public speaking is remembering that it really is nothing outside of what you are already doing every day. It is a conversation that simply involves more people.
You can “command the room” and communicate what you know in a way that is interesting, engaging, and relationship-building.
